Hope Retreat offers an intensive outpatient daily program 5 days a week & continuing care. We also offer in our local community the celebrated Celebrate Recovery Program’s 12 step program of recovery.
Our drug and alcohol rehabilitation program is dual-diagnosis capable, meaning that our staff is experienced in working with clients who are suffering from both a drug and/or alcohol problem and a co-occurring psychiatric illness, such as (but not limited to) depression and anxiety. We have a very successful track record even with those diagnosed with severe mental illness.
Hope Retreat of the South offers a full continuum of care for dual diagnosis, drug rehabilitation, substance abuse, and alcohol dependence
Here at Hope Retreat of the South we believe in a phase model of treatment, where clients are moved through the phases of treatment based on their progress at each level of care. It is a well-established treatment paradigm that a patient suffering from drug addiction and alcohol issues are given the best chance for a successful recovery if they are gradually moved through levels of treatment under the care of a treatment professional while being integrated back into their daily lives. In our program, clients will gradually step down to less intensive levels of care as they learn, demonstrate knowledge, and practice tools and techniques acquired at each level with the help of their primary Counselor and under the care of a Senior Pastor. After completing all levels of care, clients are encouraged to continue working with their primary counselor on an individually tailored basis to promote successful long-term growth in recovery.
At Hope Retreat of the South we also offer these same services to battered and abused women, as well single mothers going through a pregnancy.
About Us:
Dr. Randall Maxwell President, CEO, Executive Director, Senior Counselor & Senior Pastor
Dr. Randall Maxwell spent most of his adult life in the film and television industry until age 40, from graduation from his first tour of college at Aquinas College in Nashville Tennessee with a degree in business and a minor in theater. He quickly grew in his knowledge of the film & television industry through mentors in the industry from his first job on a film crew in NY which was about to move operations to the film studio in Wilmington North Carolina as a go-for. He got to NY because of his relationship with his college theatre director who was going to NY to become stage manager at Radio City Music Hall. His college director felt that Dr. Maxwell had a real talent as an actor and asked him to join her in her trip to NY. However Dr. Maxwell soon found his passion for film and television when he got on this film crew as their go-for.
Dr. Maxwell had worked his way through college by working for his step dad in his general insurance and real estate agency, which also was involved in those days in stocks and bonds & securities. He soon found a correlation between the film and television industry and when he was selling stocks, bonds and securities which was investments. It appeared to him that each film he was involved in had need of money somewhere along the road.
Though he knew that film investing was considered risky investment, he also saw the large return on successful films. He decided he could spread the risk out among large group of investors, do low budget film productions, and become quite successful at designing film box covers was his answer to an extremely successful career in the film industry. He then marketed his films directly to the video stores which at one time there was a video store on every corner.
Though Dr. Maxwell enjoyed an extremely successful film and television career, there was an extreme dark side to Dr. Maxwell. He ventured into the world of drugs and alcohol at age 13. Though he remained an extremely functional addict almost up to the time at age 40 he had a complete nervous breakdown and after a time in the hospital and then entered a recovery program at the Nashville Rescue Mission, a mission his step father had started when Dr. Maxwell was a tot. Thus, he actually grew up at the mission. This event humbled Dr. Maxwell considerably.
Dr. Maxwell began to return to his Christian roots while in the hospital and found Christ again! It was during this hospital stay that our LORD JESUS by HIS HOLY SPIRIT began ministering to him after him totally surrendering his life to the LORDSHIP OF CHRIST. New revelations began emerging to Dr. Maxwell, as the LORD & HOLY SPIRIT began their healing process. The LORD & HOLY SPIRIT began revealing to him that he was created to be their witness and become one of THEIR ANOINTED ministers.
After this hospital stay of 33 days Dr. Maxwell returned to the Nashville Rescue Mission and began their six month recovery program. While he continued in the mission’s recovery program the LORD & HOLY SPIRIT continued THEIR MINISTRY to him and to share many revelations and visions and dreams to him considering his calling of THEM, ANOINTING him as one of THEIR messengers and counselors. Dr. Maxwell became excited and questioning at the same time, he absorbed himself in the WORD OF GOD, while remaining in prayer. The mission was a perfect fit for Dr. Maxwell as their approach to recovery was all Biblical, where they taught the true Christian lifestyle.
Though HE died for our many sins HE has risen from the grave!
Dr. Maxwell continued to mature in the WORD OF GOD and in being lead by the HOLY SPIRIT. It was during his time at the mission that OUR LORD JESUS & HOLY SPIRIT confirmed Maxwell’s call & anointing in the Ministry. Though Dr. Maxwell could not understand how in the world the LORD JESUS CHRIST would call a sinner like he into ministry and to this day he stands amazed at this, he continued to follow the HOLY SPIRIT through his whole recovery program and then beyond.
To wrap up this history of Dr Maxwell, as part of the recovery program at the mission, after their six months program they are required to seek gainful employment and to work there for an additional six months and to find a good Church home. For the first time in Maxwell’s life, he realized that he had not really had a real job as he describes it, but he continued to follow the SPIRIT and found a job as cook at Waffle House.
Now, at this point the counselors at the mission strongly encourages their residents to stay on with the mission and become a part of their SRO program (Single Resident Occupant) during their six months in gainful employment. Looking back now, Dr. Maxwell will tell you it was his mistake not to take the Mission’s counselor’s advice of spending another 6 months in their SRO program. He was anxious to get started in ministry, and get back to his old girlfriend he had had before his nervous breakdown. He meant well, but he quickly found out after he had rented a room at In-Town Suites and began his work at Waffle House, that the girl friend he had did not receive the same vision of ministry for God that Dr. Maxwell had had.
Never the less, Dr. Maxwell felt certain that his girlfriend from his secular past would come around once she had spent time with himself, GOD & THE HOLY SPIRIT . Turns out she was one of the first persons that Maxwell had to make amends with and seek her forgiveness from treating her simply as a possession and even worse. Maxwell still felt certain once he had asked for forgiveness from her and she had a chance to experience the LOVE OF CHRIST he had found, and this very real, very intimate, eternal love relationship with the PERSON OF JESUS CHRIST she would soon feel the same excitement he had experienced in his relationship with JESUS. Looking back Dr. Maxwell will tell anyone that he really felt by perusing this relationship with his girlfriend, this would somehow give him a chance to make up his past of treating her as an object and give him a chance to introduce her to a very real, very intimate, eternal love relationship with the PERSON OF JESUS.
His girlfriend told him that she would give him another chance at a relationship, but she was going to be with her daughter and new grandbaby in the State of Maine, that he was welcome to join her if he liked. Dr. Maxwell conceded and began trying to make it all work out with her and this new calling on his life by his new best friend JESUS CHRIST. He sought out counsel from the Director at the Mission, which he told Maxwell he was crazy to pursue this option, that he should stay on with the mission, that after proper training he could come to work there at the mission as a Biblical counselor. After all Maxwell’s step father had started the mission and his mother had started to women’s work there. His step father thought it would be wonderful to groom Maxwell through Bible college and seminary and one day he could become the director at the mission. This somehow didn’t agree with Maxwell. So, the director did connect him with another rescue mission in Lewiston Maine, which would only be an hour away driving from his girlfriend’s new granddaughter.
By this time, after Maxwell working off his recovery program’s requirement of six months in gainful employment as cook at Waffle House and his current girlfriend working at Subway, they had saved enough money for their move to Maine. Maxwell had been accepted at Trinity Bible College & Seminary to their undergraduate degree program in Pastorate Ministry Degree Program with emphasis in Nauthetic Biblical Counseling. Though Maxwell had already degreed in Business at Aquianas College, this new Undergraduate Degree was required at Trinity in order for him to go on further to ultimately get his Ph.d in Pastorate Ministry. Maxwell felt lead by the Holy Spirit of his need to get his ph.d in order to communicate his God given vision to Senior Pastor across America. At this point on Maxwell’s life, he dove right in his new studies while on his move to Maine.
Upon arriving to Maine, Maxwell had already been hired as Executive Director at Amazing Grace Rescue Mission in Lewiston Maine and his then girlfriend had already accepted her new job as a manager at the Lewiston Subway Shop and the Subway Shop owner became the very first sponsor of Amazing Grace.
